Another 60 miles in 3 days...I'm at it again!
Sep 27th, 2007 at 9:37am

Hi Everyone,

This year, I'm walking in my 3rd
Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk
for the
Susan G. Komen Foundation
. This year, I'm walking in honor of my friend, Candie, who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had 1 of her breasts removed...She was extremely lucky--her doctor found the mass as a fluke due to her getting a mammogram when changing insurance companies....She was only 37 at the time.... Had she waited until she was 40 to get her 1st mammogram, she might not be here today....she finished her chemo and radiation on April 15th.... So far, so good... she's growing her hair back again!!

I was supposed to walk in Michigan's 3-Day this coming weekend, but a friend's wedding came up, and since I'm in her wedding party, I can't walk here in Michigan this year. Instead, I'm walking in Atlanta, Georgia on the weekend of Oct. 12-14, 2007....

The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a
3 Day, 60 mile walk (20 miles a day for 3 days)
to help raise funds for breast cancer research.... My current goal is to raise a minimum of
$2,200
by the time I'm walking-- I am currently about $1,870 away from my goal....with
only 2 weeks left
to go!

Any donation amount (big or small) would truly be appreciated (although a $60 donation is only $1 per mile of my walk) and I will gladly dedicate your donation in honor of a specific person, if you wish....

You can go directly to my 3-Day Walker's page and do the donation online (there is also a downloadable PDF if you want to send in a check--just make sure to let me know so that I can look for it to post to my donations)... For those who donate, I will gladly send you a pink "Breast Cancer 3-Day" bracelet in appreciation--
for large donations (over $200), I am knitting pink breast cancer ribbon socks
.

If you have a friend or family member for whom you would like to honor, show support or dedicate your donation, I would gladly add their name to my "honorees list" (you can do that directly online at my walker's website. If you are sending a check it won't show up on the website that way, but I WILL carry their name / photo with me while walking.) If you do decide to go the route of sending in a check, please let me know so that I can keep my eye out for it to post on my account. (At this point, online donations are easier because of the tight timeline).

Here's my walker's website:
***** EDIT: There's something wrong with my link  so please go directly to the ATLANTA site *****

You can do a search in the
ATLANTA
site of the 3-Day Website under my name... (I'm the only Iris from Michigan who is walking in Atlanta this year.)

Please note: The 3-Day organization is supposed to be transferring my site to the Atlanta walk, if there are any problems in getting to my donation page, please feel free to email me!

If any of you can help me out in this endeavor, I will be extremely grateful...

I walk
because
I can
...

I walk
because
my best friend's mom is a breast cancer survivor

I walk
because
my husbands grandma (who passed away at the age of 95 in 2005) was a breast cancer survivor

I walk
in
honor of my friend, Candie
...and I pray that she will also become a breast cancer survivor...

I walk
because
I care
.

I walk
because
I believe I can make a difference
....

I walk
because
I can and others can't
.

As a child, I wanted to do cancer research and to become a doctor...

As a college student, my life plans changed....

I married my husband (who now works at a university doing cancer research).

I believe
my job at a university could result in a future student working on cancer research.

I believe
that the 3-Day walk is one way
I can make the difference I envisioned as a child

and
I hope that you can be a part of it
, too...

Please feel free to forward this info to friends as well!

If you've reached this point of my message, thank you for taking the time to read it, and if you choose to donate to my walk, thanks for the help!!!

OOPS!!!!

The 3-Day did change my walker's link after all....

So, here's the new one (sorry about it being so long-- cut and paste the whole thing to get to my walker's page.)

*** EDIT: For some odd reason, my link is not working... so please do the following instead ***

Go to the Atlanta walk site through the 3-Day website:
www.the3day.org and type in "Iris"...

I'm the only Iris walking in Atlanta from Michigan... Wink

(I've changed the link in my original post as well...)

Glad that you raised enough money to walk this year!  Just went through the Atlanta airport.  Looks like you will have great weather!
