Mymeka Thanks...basically it's up to people like us really word of mouth....on our myspace page I put the Romantics number one on our friends page just so people click away..on all live shows I credit them...on a recent TV show I talked about them. I gave Wally a few out of the box ideas maybe these ideas will work maybe they won't...61/49 is honestly one of the best records out in my opinion and nobody knows about it. On a TV show I did awhile back the interviewer said "You guys remind me of the Romantics" He said he had all of their recordings I said "Oh you have 61/49?"...he didn't even know it was out there he went and bought and Thanked me for telling him about it.
Thats what I'm talking about...this crap I see posted by trickfan or blondio or cozfan doesn't help it turns people off...believe me the guys in the Romantics appreciate everything you fans do.....just keep promoting the band !!!!!

yes, now this link also has "Come See Me" as well as an interview.
i think this live version of come see me really captures the essence of the garage band sound.  anybody else love the opening bass line of this song?

Jonnie,

I have supported them for the past 23 years, and will continue to do so, believe me!

I honestly think it's time for The Romantics to have an official Fan Club - one that sells merchandise, has a forum for fan club members only, news, updates, photos, video, etc.

Hmmmm.....fanclub?  That's an interesting thought!  I think it was brought up a while ago, but someone seems to have dropped the ball and never picked it back up and ran with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shoot... I know that they had a fan club off of their 1st album... I remember sending a fan letter to them back when I was about 18 or 19... But sadly, I think it was defunct by that time, since I never heard back... Tongue

I know a couple of people here who would LOVE to put together a Band-endorsed fan club... Smiley

By the way... there is an unofficial Fan group out there... but pretty much has the same people as on this message board... Smiley

As for me, I personally always ask permission of the band and the venue before taking photos....

From what I understand, there are different issues if someone is photographed in an outdoor "public" venue vs. indoors inside a specific "private" building. At any rate, as far as I've ever seen, no one here at the message board has been pirating or making profits off of their photos / videos of the band...

Some of the fans here are really starved for anything Romantics--since the guys haven't really had the opportunity to hit all areas of the US (or world) with their recent tours....every little tease of Romantics videos or photos really make many of us happy... The band seems to be at least somewhat aware of the discussions here at their own message boards... if there were any issues, I'm sure that they would make it known directly to the fans...

Besides... any mention of the Romantics anywhere means FREE publicity for the band and that much more "internet air time", which hopefully will translate into more fans (and newer, younger fans) in the future.....

Publicity-wise, I think they are hurt by Sony sitting on a valuable back catalog. Even these poorly organized/poorly attended Little Steven shows would help if there was a good selection of old CDs to buy afterward - people are always looking to buy a cd after being blown away. Fan buys a good best-of, or In Heat or s/t reissue, increasing chance they also pick up 61/49 since the wallet is already out, gets CD signed, gets back into listening to the band and word of mouth commences. Early 2007, Romantics still on their mind and on ipod when they read review of new LP in Mojo or wherever. Buys/downloads that. Attends next tour. With friend (s). Audience builds. Etc.

Reality for a casual observer (obviously not the folks on this board!) - no catalog available. 50-50 chance on selling 61/49 to the casual fan is lowered. Enjoys show, goes home, show fades from memory faster with no cd as your orignal vinyl is in storage or in your mom's attic or gone.

61/49 they hired p.r. company and got some decent reviews, but again, with no catalog to go hand in hand with the new stuff, it's a tougher sell, almost like starting from scratch. They'll hire another p.r. company when it is time for the new release I'd assume.

That said, this tour should still be better attended. It shouldn't be up to the Romantics to publicize it. There are no posters, ads, fliers, signs, etc. Opening act in Atlantic City was added on a Tuesday for a Friday night show. Two feet from the club entrance inside this casino, there was no mention of any show anywhere, or anywhere else in the entire building. A total joke, amazing that as many people showed up as they did. They are "rolling" in a ton of cash from two big sponsors (att, beer company), guess it all went to the snazzy tour buses and dancers.

sorry to vent, just would hate to see a great resurgence by a band wasted.

There was a little bit of publicity in the Courier News.  At least that was something.  Maybe that's how some found out about the show!

Thanks for the LSUG footage.  I was at the Double Door show in Chicago it was one of the best I've seen the guys play.  Real tight and lively for the 40 minutes but I wanted to hear "Mind".  Coz has found the fountain of youth.  Thank you again, Bookies, for arranging guest lists passes for us.  The board needs you!

Can't wait for the new CD and DVD.

Brad and Chloe - Happy Belated!   I saw Graham Elvis at the show, one of Brad's "brothers".  Before the Rockford show, Mike Skill was at the same fish restaurant as us talking and pacing on his cell phone.   Smiley

Coz DOES look sportin' now, doesn't he  Wink?

I'm in full agreement, the band NEEDS publicity in a bad way.  They are SO much better than any of the music that is out today, and that needs to be realized by a much greater audience.

Also added is Part 3 to the interview.  The conclusion brings us to "Talking In Your Sleep" and the talk of the new album for 2007.  Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  By the way, does anyone know what "Talking in Your Sleep" was originally titled?
