not too shabby to be tied for first with the world series champs of 2005!
i think we have to keep guillen and ordonez healthy and of course keep the pitching on target!

they are playing good baseball right now and hopefully the pitching will continue to hold up. yesterday's booing by the comerica crowd of dimitri young was totally uncalled for after his third strike out though.
Go Tigers!!

the tigers are so unreal this year......this far through the season they have show they have the talent and as long as they are healthy they are playoff bound. finally the baseball fans of detroit can hold there head up.

perhaps they will play my los angeles dodgers in the world series

sorry brew but theres not enought room for both the dodgers and brewers Roll Eyes

Andrew, what I meant was THE ROMANTICS need an invite to Miller Park.

As for Dmitri Young, he was booed because he roughed up his girlfriend, not because of the strikeouts.   Angry

another exciting come from behind win last night!!!
tigers displayed the "it aint over till its over" attitude and clawed their way back from a 4-0 deficit.
oh and brew, dimitri is on the dl.

Yeah, his feelings are hurt.

I hope he goes from the DL straight to the "Pen".  Now he'll have time to hang with his brother Delmon, the kid who threw his bat at an umpire and is serving a 50 game suspension.  Nice family.

i dont recall how the tigers did last year.....did there have that winning record..... its been a number of years intil last year there really had a decent year. i think they have a team that can bring it to the post season. i think they should make a pitching move to guarantee a soild staff but we will see

Quite a comeback yesterday after giving up 6 runs in the first inning. Moroth( is that the right spelling) is going to be a problem all year though. This guy is nothing but a junk pitcher who couldn't break a pane of glass with his fastball. There are high school kids who can throw harder. You have to be a real master of junk pitches like slow curves and change ups to be effective, and this guy doesn't have it. Look for him to get bombed pretty regularly.

its actually spelled Maroth.
i hear what you are saying but i dont agree.
i think he is a decent pitcher and has decent stuff most of the time.
or at least stuff that he can fool the hitters with for the first couple of times around.

not sure what happened to him yesterday but geez, everyone is entitled to an "off" day of sorts.
he and nate robertson are my two favorite tigers pitchers.

hey, what about all us locals renting a suite at a tigers game and having a romantics/tigers reunion?

I was at the game tonight! So awesome! It was a near sell out and the place was going CRAZY. Unlike past years where people left in the 7th/8th inning... people stayed to the end to give the team a standing ovation when the won!

I saw the game Saturday night.  It was great, and Verlander had so much speed on his pitches! 100 mph! The place was packed, and everyone stood up for the last pitch of the game to cheer the Tigers on.  It was fun.   Smiley

say it ain't so!
losing two in a row!
leyland reminded me of trammell today by leaving bonderman in way too long and allowed the tigers to bury themselves with no offense to dig themselves out today.

oh well, 3 more games versus the yankees!

truthfully, i knew this home stand would be tough.
no offense behind nate last night.
he seems to be a hard luck pitcher.
he can pitch a decent game but the bats are silent.
mussina was just a little bit better last night.
good thing the white sox have lost a couple too!

Agreed... I think it was a big win. It would be great to go atleast 2-1 this weekend against Boston.

I hate ESPN sometimes... they are calling this past week/upcoming one a "reality check" for the Tigers. Funny the Tigers are still in first place by a few games! And what do you know the White Sox lose three games to a below .500 game but of course ESPN is not saying anything about that.

like i said, he isn't the go-to guy leyland thinks he is.
i would have much rather seen ANYONE out there than jones in the 9th when we had a one run lead.

i hope leyland isn't morphing into trammell.

I was thinking about going out to Chicago for one of this weeks game... you can take Amtrak out there for only 40 bucks round trip. I might do that next weekend to catch the Cubs/Tigers game.

ESPN finally shows the Tigers some respect: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=rogers_phil&id=2472034

Andrew--DO IT!!  If you've never been to Wrigley Field, go!  It's a blast.  I started going down there for games once or twice a year when I was a senior in high school, and I still get down there whenever I get a chance.  It's a blast!  Great ballpark, great surroundings, lotsa fun to be had in the neighborhood, and if your team is playing there, all the better.

leyland pulled another trammell last night.
took out zumaya
put in rodney
rodney walked three in a row
leyland left him in until cintron hits a three run homer and beats us.
question 1:  why didnt he just let zumaya come back in for the final three outs?

question 2:  when he saw rodney wasnt able to throw a strike, why did he give him so many chances?

jim leyland beat the tigers last night.  not the white sox.

oh and brew, did you see this?

CHICAGO -- Radio station WDFN-AM (1130) reported Thursday that Tigers designated hitter Dmitri Young has entered the Betty Ford Center, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility in southern California.

whether its true or not, i sure wish him the best.  some folks just have a harder time fighting their demons.

So how many times in the last 2 weeks have the Tigers blown it in the 8/9th inning? Like 9837493208 times now?

I'm going to a game next week and I'm bring a "Must Go Jones" sign.  Cool

as you all know leyland took florida to the world series...we has a past of taking low budget teams to the playoffs..he brings the best out of them.....the tigers are better then a low budget team.....they will have great and bad home stands all in all..if there health or drink them selves to the dl...but puting the joking aside young has talent and is still young...i thonk he will boucne back just fine....i wish him luck.... there a playoff team....start saving your championship ticket money.

zumaya didn't have it
rodney didn't have it
jones didn't have it
seay didn't have it

imagine that.  all the bullpen "stars" having an off night on the same night.
must be something in the canadian water.

andrew, don't fret.  its not all jones' fault.  all the pen contributed to that loss.

Thanks for the offer but before I booked my train ticket a good friend of mine offered me tickets to go with him to see Ringo Starr here in Detroit... you can't pass up Ringo Starr (well for me atleast... he was the first person I ever listened to... I remember rockin' out to Ringo's solo stuff at age 4/5ish).

i think by the all star break will give a good idea where they stand...the half way point of the season.

yeah pirate, i agree.  the all star break will tell the tale.
no matter what happens, it has been such excitement for the folks of this city!  who's my tiger?  well, i initially voted for ordonez but i might have to go back to my REAL favorite who is pudge.  seems to be having a much better year with all of his personal problems behind him now so he can focus on his game.

Did anyone happen to catch the Tiger's/Cub's game today?  After coming back from a commercial break during the 6th inning (I think), you could hear "Devil In Me" playing as the cameras were scanning the crowd and all of the Detroit fans in attendance.  The announcers went on to talk about The Romantics and the fact that "Devil In Me" was off of their last album that came out a few years ago, 61/49.  And at the end of that inning, going into a commercial, once again, "Devil In Me" was played!  Interesting!  Very interesting!  I think it was even playing at the end of the game too! Wink

I didn't see it, but my friend, a Tiger fan in Milwaukee, did.  When I told him I was going to see the Romantics in Manitowoc tomorrow, he said they were playing it during the Cubs game.  He thought they sounded bluesy.  Anyway, I suspect that Cubs announcer Len Kasper had something to do with it--he is known to be a HUGE fan of the band.

Well, I see that Len Kasper is actually from MI, born January 21, 1971 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He graduated summa cum laude from Marquette University in 1993.
He also used to announce for the Florida Marlins (2002-2004), and Milwaukee Brewers (1999-2001). I thought he sounded familiar!
Before then, he hosted pregame and halftime shows for the Green Bay Packers and was a co-host on a hot stove league show on the Brewers radio network. During the Late 1990's, Len fronted a Milwaukee based power pop group, Your Indentured Servants.

The Brewers are hot...they just swept Cleveland;  I know Detroit is hot, too.  I will be at Miller Park tonight for Game 1.  I predict the Brew Crew takes 2 of 3.

Wow, Bonderman was pretty untouchable.  But Doug Davis matched him.  The "offense" really consisted of two bunts that were misplayed into doubles.  Great game, though.  We will be back tonight!

It was a great game! Like the announcers said when you got a great pitching matchup it will come down to alittle small ball and an error and sure enough the next inning that happened.

It was wierd to see the words "Fielder - Home Run"  - as a kid I really loved Cecil Fielder and I remember seeing him hit one out of Tiger Stadium!

excellent game.  great to see bonderman finally really "on" rather than just teetering.

hope "miner" strikes gold tonight!

I hope Miner "gets buried" tonight--the Brewers will "give 'em Hell"-ing!   Wink

And, that Fielder boy can hit!  He's gonna be a much better player than his daddy.

Brew... I agree with you he will be a great player down the road (if not soon). Have you ever watched Cecil Fielder back in the day? He could hit but could NOT run... they said last night he had 2 stolen bases in his career. His son on the other hand has 5 this year!

At the bat too! A double at his first at bat in the majors!

So crazy and strange to hear ESPN guys talking tonight about how they "hope we can cap off this great season with winning it all" and how we are here to stay and how we have a chance at playoffs. Crazy. Sadly they didn't even mention Miner who deserves atleast some props for tonight's game.

Hey, Brewers salvaged one today.  Sounds like a pretty exciting game--I heard parts of it on the radio.  Luckily, I did hear the Rickie Weeks homer in the 7th!  The Tigers impressed me, though--I had not seen them yet this season.  If they can avoid injuries, they will be playing into October.  That pitching!  And now that they are done playing my Brew Crew, I can start rooting for them to win the A.L.

the tigers are having a unbelieivable season...they of course surpassed there games won back in 2004....47 ? games won the whole year.....the all star break would be a good judgement to feel how the team will finish if they stay healthy...but you can almost call this one a lil early.....tigers look good....they look like they are playoff bound.
bonderman did have a outstanding game....(outstanding).

as for my dodgers....they are starting to fade....in the back of my mind i was hoping for a dodger and tiger world series......a dodger vs boston or new york wouldnt hurt either.

while i don't expect them to win EVERY game they play, the encouraging thing is their attititude.   they never give up and they play with the hearts of champions.  that will get them far.

now if only the white sox would lose a few and give us some breathing room!

Saw them in Pittsburgh over the weekend...

Tigers won 9 to 8, although they gave up a pretty good lead and had us a little nervous until the final out....

It was fun to see them playing well (and at a game where there wasn't any rain!).   In addition, they had 2 fly-bys at the stadium with a Stealth Bomber (there were all sorts of things going on for the holiday weekend).  It was pretty cool!

As Tigers and Mets lead, Yanks and Braves try to play catchup
Updated 7/13/2006 11:49 AM ET
By Mel Antonen, USA TODAY
PITTSBURGH — The Detroit Tigers, who haven't had a winning season since 1993, resume play Thursday with baseball's best record (59-29). But if the Tigers are going to win their first division title since 1987, they have at least one correction to make:

They have to find a way to beat contenders.

That's just one of many interesting developments to watch in baseball's second half. Can the New York Mets hold on? Will the Atlanta Braves fail to make the postseason? How many trades will clubs make?

TEAM-BY-TEAM OUTLOOKS: National League | American League

The Tigers, off five consecutive seasons with 90 or more losses, have spent the first half pounding American League Central teams, going 22-5 against the Kansas City Royals (league-worst 31-56 record), Cleveland Indians (40-47) and Minnesota Twins (47-39).

The Tigers are a combined 3-10 against the Boston Red Sox (53-33), New York Yankees (50-36) and division-rival Chicago White Sox (57-31). Detroit has a two-game lead on the White Sox despite a 1-5 record against them. They play each other 13 more times.

"We have a lot of games left, and it's not going to be easy to win the division," says Ivan Rodriguez, the Tigers' All-Star catcher. "We just have to not think about it and just do what we've been doing. If we keep the pitching healthy, we are going to be all right."

Detroit is a blend of youth and experience. Kenny Rogers (11-3, 3.85 ERA) leads a rotation that has come of age. Outfielder Magglio Ordonez (.312, 62 RBI), Rodriguez (.308), shortstop Carlos Guillen (.298, 52 RBI) and closer Todd Jones (23 saves in 26 chances) have been terrific.

Rookie pitchers Justin Verlander (10-4, 3.01 ERA), Zach Miner (6-1, 2.57 ERA) and Joel Zumaya (4-1, 2.08 ERA) have been key; Verlander could be the first rookie to win 20 games since Detroit's Ed Summers won 24 in 1908. Outfielder Marcus Thames (.297, 17 homers) has been a huge surprise.

Still, it's never easy to pitch during August and September in a division race, and that will be a new experience for the young rotation. The Tigers hope All-Star starter Rogers, 41, doesn't falter. He is 16-13 with a 4.80 ERA after the break in the last three seasons.

The Tigers, in first at the break for the first time since 1988, are the biggest surprise. But other new contenders could be around come September.

The Cincinnati Reds are four games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central, and the Toronto Blue Jays are five behind the Red Sox and two behind the Yankees in the AL East. The Reds have scored the NL's third-most runs (448), but their pitching has given up the fourth most (463). Their staff is 11th in ERA (4.78). Weak pitching is not a good sign for contenders.

The Reds acquired closer Eddie Guardado from the Seattle Mariners just before the break, and they are banking on the return of injured pitchers Grant Balfour (bullpen) and Brandon Claussen (rotation) in the next few weeks.

Toronto ranks 10th in the AL in ERA (4.66) and fifth in runs scored (472). But if A.J. Burnett comes back to the rotation from injury to support Roy Halladay, the first to reach 12 wins this season, the Blue Jays have a strong chance to be playing in October for the first time since 1993 — when they won the second of back-to-back World Series.

The Blue Jays, 7-4 against Boston, have eight games left with the Red Sox. Toronto, 2-3 against the Yankees, has 13 games left with New York. A four-game home series starts July 20.

"We actually have a chance, and it all sits in front of us," says Blue Jays All-Star outfielder Vernon Wells (.311, 21 homers, 66 RBI). "Our biggest improvement is offense. We play well against the Red Sox and Yankees."

Other questions for the second half:

Come October, could the Yankees and Braves be going home?

It's possible. The Braves have been in every postseason since 1991, the Yankees since 1995. The Braves went 6-21 in June and are 13 games behind the Mets in the NL East.

"In the past when we've come back, the teams haven't been as good, but the Mets are going to be hard to beat," says Braves All-Star outfielder Andruw Jones.

The Yankees needed the break, manager Joe Torre says. They not only have to contend with the Red Sox and Blue Jays but also the AL Central, which has become the toughest division in baseball. With the White Sox or Tigers, the AL Central could have its first wild-card team since the three-division format started in 1994.

ok did anybody else notice that during today's game, they played what i like about you in the background and must have played at least an entire minute of the song?? way more of a song than i have ever heard them play during any baseball game!!
could it be that they could hear the romantics rockin' by the riverfront all the way over to comerica park last night and that inspired whoever is in charge to play some romantics music???

ok, so the tigers lost today after blowing a 5 run lead.
you can't win 'em all!

With all the energy flowing last night  during the concert if they didn't hear the concert they probably felt the energy!

How about those White Soxs? I even heard on ESPN the other day a bunch of people talking about if the White Soxs were falling apart...!

Oh by the way thanks Wally for updating us all on the score last night during the concert!

the only downside to this awesome season is that tickets i once could get for $20 behind home plate are now selling for $175!!

i am happy to watch the games on the tv though if it means going to the World Series!!

Heck even normal tickets... I'm so used to just heading downtown and buying tickets 5 mins before the first pitch, now game after game is a sell out and I'm actually having to plan out when I'll go so I can get tickets!

If anyone's interested in going on August 7th,
I maybe able to get some Upper Box Infield seats at $15 (normally $20)

For those of you who don't know, I'm doing the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk again on August 11-13th, and they've released a few seats
to our group. Smiley

--Iris

P.S. if you would like seats, please PM me ASAP. I am ordering some tickets today, but Not sure if there are many left!

no need to panic.....the tigers are well groomed team and sit in good shape...just like all winning teams they will have a few bad outings.....but they will make the playoffs that is a done deal.

yeah, another loss again though against the drays.
leyland made another move that reminded me too much of trammell.
he took robertson out at the first sign of trouble after pitching 6 great innings.  you could tell robertson was furious because he was responsible for the two runners on base and once they brought in zumaya and one of the runners scored, nate just left for the showers.
leyland seems to have "pets" when it comes to his pitching staff and robertson is not one of them.
had that been bonderman in there, he would have left him to see if he couldnt pitch himself out of the jam.

Its funny right when he stepped up to bat I'm like "After all the stuff Pudge brings to the table for the team he so deserves to hit the home run ball right now."

Another win today! Ledazma(sp?) stepped up BIG time! Bring on the Twins!

That's what separates the men from the boys.  Here's where the Tigers either grow up or make us all throw up.  Can you tell I've been working on my sports cliches?

I'm predicting grow up.  It will certainly get them better prepared for the playoffs.

I saw them last night with some friends who are also walking in the 3-Day Breast Cancer walk next weekend. What a fun game, although we were on the sunny side of the stadium and the light was shining in our eyes for about 1/2 of the game!

Iris, I heard of this new invention...they are called "sunglasses" and they shield a person's eyes from the bright light of the sun.  I'm thinking about picking some up.  I'll let you know if they work before you waste your money on them.

Cool

if i ever mention going to a tigers game again when nate robertson is pitching, someone please remind me of this post.
i went ALONE to the game last night, sat in section 129 (behind home plate) row 4, had on my "gum time" t-shirt and we still lost!!!
i think i jinxed him.
why can't the tigers bats explode when he is pitching?
they just couldn't pull it together for him last night......again!

and so far i am not impressed with this casey guy.

pirate, that would be so exciting!
but first i have to get these tigers back on track and back to their winning ways.
the white sox roughed them up a bit too much. Shocked

at least they gave nate some runs last night to work with.
i heard a statistic last night by one of the announcers and that is he is third of all major league starters with the lowest run production behind him.
like i said, poor guy should have a few more wins but the offense let him down. Sad

theres a number of pitchers out there on a good team that doesnt get the run production as there team mates do....but im sure by the season gets older they will knock in a few more runs for him.....i still think its safe to say the tigers are in....my dodgers must win the division to get in....in keeping my fingers crossed.

Dang!  The Dodgers lost 1 to 0 to San Diego.  The National League West is so fluid it is vexing (how's that for a word).  I'm afraid this division will go down to the wire.  Go Dodgers!!!!!

Thanks.  Nice to be back.  I have a bit of catching up to do.

i hear you dennis.....it seems to have been this way for a number of years in that division but usally the dodgers slide back further around this time of year. hopefully this year they will stay in the race......sweeped by san diego...that wasnt good. they seem to be ropin arizona tonight....perhaps another 14 game winning streak on the horizon.

hope the rain out last night didn't hurt the tigers by giving them the extra day off.  the lead has been shaved to only 5 games up now and we still have the stretch run.  hope they can hang on.

oh and get well wishes for david ortiz.  hope it turns out to be nothing serious or career ending.

same get well wishes for Mariners Rafael Soriano hospitalized with a concussion.

and kudos to Florida manager Joe Girardi who missed Tuesday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals , choosing to remain at home with his pregnant wife and brace for a possible hurricane.  proving once again that there are a few good guys left who put family first.

Went to the game last night (last minute thing) and it was a blast!  Kenny Rogers was great and I always love to see "Zoom Zoom" Zumaya in as the reliever.  We ended up with perfect seats right behind home plate.

LMK--last night was Eric & my 14th wedding anniversary! Wink (And Mick's 9th b-day, if I'm not mistaken!)

It would have been fun to go to the game-- we tried out a new Bangladeshi restaurant near our house and then had a quiet evening at home instead--We were going to go to a movie, but I had to work late to get my office ready for our Department head to visit today, and we didn't leave Detroit until about 7 p.m  Had we though of it, we probably would have gone to the game instead of watching TV at home! :-D

Easy there on my Brew Crew.  They are not the worst.

The Cubs are.

Congrats to all you Tigers fans !!! Nobody believed they could do it but they put
the old, tired, egomaniacal, overpaid Skankees in their place !!!  BrewCity-you
are correct about the Cubs...... anyone can have a bad century  Cry  I have the
ultimate respect for their fans- 98 years and counting and they STILL support
the team !!!

I hear the new motto in Detroit is "Let's party like it's 1984!".  In that vein, maybe they'll want to line up the Romantics for a World Series gig........

(Remember, 'we are the '80's')   Wink

Now that Gary Shefield is a Tiger, I'm sorry, but I can no longer root for them.  In fact, I now have to root against them.  As talented as he is, his attitude will ruin that team.

sheffield was a bad move for many reasons--one of which you mentioned above.
i think we could have spent our money wiser elsewhere.
we could have done without this guy for sure.

well we can only hope leland has a strong influence on him.

oh and did everyone see?

Justin Verlander named AL Rookie of the Year!!
Quite an honor considering it is the first time since 1978 that a Tiger got the award!

leland will be a strong influence on sheffield....sheff has alot of respect for him and with sheff getting towards the end of his career i think he will be problem free for those tigers......its great to see the tigers take another step to make there team even better with the talent they already have.

bookies who was the last rookie of the year tiger.....wasnt matt nokes a rookie of the year in the early 80s..he was a catcher

lou whitaker was rookie of the year in 1978
mark fidrych in 1976
i remember the name matt nokes but i will have to investigate whether or not he ever got the award.  (he played on the 1987 Topps All-Star Rookie Team)
thanks pirate for the encouraging words about sheffield.

Hey there,
I just heard on the news today that they will be selling memorabilia from the old "Tiger Stadium" once they find a company who can do it.   I guess that means the final days to the stadium will soon come... Sad  Bookies may know this-- Are they still considering making the stadium over into some condos, or have they scrapped that idea entirely?

this coming tuesday at the uptown palladium theater in birmingham they are having a dvd premiere party of "uncaged" which is a look back at the 2006 tigers season. us locals should try to meet up there and make it a romantics/tigers celebration! Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; seating begins at 7:30.

was downtown today to do some work for ilitch/tigers charities and wow, what excitement!! i went down at 8:15 this morning and the cars getting off at the exit were already lined up. greand circus park is filled with people.
i think there are as many people outside milling about as there are inside watching the game.  cheli's was lined up around the block by 10am.
looks like detroit has tiger fever for sure!!
right now we are losing though, 3-1.
hopefully bondo has gotten over opening day jitters and will settle down for the rest of the game.  sheffield sac fly is our only run!!

which he should considering his batting average is about .128 right now

Hey everyone!
I'm thinking of setting up a Tigers Game fundraiser for my Breast Cancer Walk-- Is anyone interested in going?

It would probably be in July and probably around the time of the Romantics gig in Detroit (if I can figure out how to do it.)

Let me know if you are interested!

hey brew, did you get to witness the no-hitter pitched by verlander last night!!!
he made hardy and fielder look like little leaguers!
what an awesome thing for the tigers after the disappointing loss in the world series last fall.
hopefully this is the momentum they need to go all the way again!!

I did see the first 5 or 6 innings...Verlander's stuff was really unhittable.  He was really dealin' last night.  I bet that kid throws a few more no-hitters before he's done.

I was happy to see the Brew Crew bounce back tonight with a win.  I'm still hoping for a Brewers-Tigers World Series matchup.

yes the tigers are having a great season......sheffield has come around i just hopes he doesnt stir up the dugout in a negitive way......and yes even a no hitter...he is going to be good for the tigers for years to come they need to lock him up on a long term deal.

Sheffield is an idiot.  He should get his damn foot out of his mouth long enough to play ball.  That stuff he said about Joe Torre is just lunacy.

I agree Brew.Sheffield has a reputation for blasting every team that he has played for,and one day he will be mouthing off about the Tigers after they get tired of his mouth. He's a great hitter, but a major distraction in the clubhouse.I was very happy when The Yankees cut him loose.

maybe sheffield is one of those who refuse to play the political "game" involved in major league baseball and corporate america in general.  i must admit, i am not crazy about his comments about using steroid cream etc. and he does shoot his mouth off at times, but hey, its his constitutional right.

i guess sheffield must have read my post reguarding he has been a great addition. he is an idiot. in the back of my mind it was true good to be true...he has been to quiet to long and he just made his predicting noise. well at least he is putting up some good numbers but needs to keep his weird thoughts to him self.

Political "game"?  Whatever happened to honesty and respect?  And accountability?

You are correct about one thing......it is his constitutional right to shoot off his mouth and make a complete ass of himself if he so chooses.

Looks like they didn't need him to pound the Yanks last night!  Hope he stays out for a while longer.

the tigers didn't seem to put up too much of a fight over these last three games.  it was like after they imploded in monday nights loss, they conceded to cleveland.
sheffield needs to go though along with a few others for 2008.
sorry brew, i have to root for the cubbies over the brewers!

The tigers need a new manager. He's an idiot and the reason the Tigers didn't run away with the division. When a starting pitcher is pitching a strong game, you LEAVE HIM IN! But NOOOOOOOOOOO. After 60 or 70 pitches, we have to take him out and bring in someone from our weak bullpen. I remember guys like Mickey Lolitch pitching complete games all the time. You don't take the starter out unless he is in trouble.

oldfriend..you nailed it. its not like the good old days. some of the good starting pitchers would complete 10 to 20 games. 120 to 150 pitches a game. todays starters make a greater percentage to money pitch less and seriously are hurt easier. i dont get it.

world series picks......yankeems.....cubbies

yes, i agree the pitchers are too babied these days but i think its to try and lengthen their careers and create jobs for some short relievers or something.
anyhow, to me a pitcher should pitch the whole game.

as for the cubbies, well they have a couple of transplanted tigers faces on their bench.  loyalty does travel across lake michigan!

Ah, the Tigers had a good year but just didn't have enough at the end......... too bad; they have really
good starting pitching but the bullpen is not up to snuff.......anyway, I like the Angels and the D-backs
to play in the World Series with LA winning it all........

As a Vegas regular, I can tell you a good rule to follow is never go against a hot team....I like Colorado
for this reason; the only thing that scares me is they will have been off for eight days and that may
actually cool them off..........

Will the Lions actually make the playoffs this year ?!

Bookies, I even bought a pink (yes, pink) Tigers shirt at Sam's club.... AND Eric and I went to see a game in April. (the one where they scores 19 runs). Now THAT was a GOOD game.....

Don't know what's the deal with them! I think maybe they need to have the Romantics play a gig prior to a show--that might put enough fires under their butts to win a game... What do you think?!!!

Sorry Tiger fans.First my Yankees dumped Sheffield on you,and now Kyle Farnsworth.
Farnsworth wasn't too bad this year, but every time he took the mound my stomach would tighten up.Glad to have Pudge in NY,even if it's only until the end of this season.

yep, it seems that the yankees did get the best end of the deal.
farnsworth was here a few years back and if we didnt want him then, why would we trade pudge to get him now?
another great executive decision i suppose.
between dombrowski and leyland, the tigers are destined to return to their losing record.

Well,it took 2 seasons, but Sheffield wore out his welcome in Detroit when The Tigers put him on waivers this week. You guys would know better than me,but I heard it was Leyland's decision because of Sheffield's non-stop complaining about playing time.

im not surprised sheffield wore out his welcome..... hes known to do that after 3 to 4 years with a team. yes!!!! go dodger blue!!!! its a weekend of blue with the brewers in town and due to be sent home winless. its the dodgers being the dodgers  Cool

rodriguez trade...... i was shocked but then learned he wasnt playing as a full time catcher etc. hes getting to the age where teams trade that player that makes us go hhhmmmmmmmm. ivan started in the big leagues very young and still has a good couple of years left he he stays healthy and is given oppurtunity.

Pirate,
Those losses to Washington were embarrassing!  I worried there was not longer a team they could win against.  Thankfully, even without Kent, they did well against Arizona and San Diego.

Whew.  The Dodgers swept The Diamondbacks and now are 1 1/2 games in the lead in the National League West.  I think this season is going to be a cliff hanger.   dennis

OH MY!  The Dodgers are now in front by 3 1/2 games.  Can a pennant win be far behind?  (memo to self:  cross fingers, toes and eyes) Smiley

dodgers have the easiest schuele.... they are favored to take the division.... as you know funny things can happen..... so i will for sure keep my fingers cross.

(bookies) since the dodgers are doing better then the tigers we may need to change this to a dodger thread  Cool

Pirate,

I totally agree with you.  Since the Tigers' fans have been so quiet for so long this should change to a Dodgers' thread. Wink  C'mon Dodger blue!!

Pirate,

Thanks for your reply.  I was beginning to think I was only talking to myself.
