Clubs The Romantics Have Played

Can you remember clubs that you have seen the Romantics play?

There is a club in NY that is pretty infamous called CBGB's.  Ever hear of it?  Here is an interesting article:

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/08/11/cbgb.eviction.ap/

Here is the link for the club:

Somehow the Romantics aren't named!  We need to do something about that! Cheesy

Ever hear of it? You are kidding, right? Off hand, I don't remember the Romantics ever playing CBGB'S, but I could be wrong.

They did play there.  I am actually in the process of getting them to add the Romantics to their list!
I also didn't know how many people would be aware of CBGB's that weren't around in their "hay day"!  Those of us in that "age range" would know, but the others?  Just making everyone aware! Cheesy

I seem to remember they were supposed to play there, but it was cancelled due to the "big blackout" that hit the east coast that year....???

I may have told this story before, but I saw them play in November, 1990, at a tiny little dive in Madison, Ind., called the Electric Lady. The place is in a building at least 100 years old, and when the band cranked up the amps, bits of plaster started falling from the ceiling. I thought the whole place was going to collapse!

Oh, and I've got a piece of the CBGB's wall. A friend of mine was there about three years ago. Knowing what a Ramones fan I am, she had her boyfriend take a hunk of the wall near the men's room, and smuggled it out under her jacket. Now that's friendship ... or is it just vandalism? Geez, I hope the NYPD doesn't see this post ...

You are correct, they did not play the night of the blackout.  However, it was rescheduled and they did play eventually! Shocked

Can I!:

The Alibi, Oshkosh, WI
Marty Zifko's Chandelier Ballroom, Hartford, WI
Varsity Theater (Marquette University)
UW-Milwaukee Ballroom
The Rave in the Eagles Club, Milwaukee
Double Door, Chicago
Oscar's, Rockford, IL
Summerfest, Milwaukee (twice)
Fish Day, Port Washington, WI
Northern Lights Theater in Potawatomi Bingo Casino, Milwaukee

Those aren't all clubs, but they're all places where I've seen them play.  I've probably forgotten a few......you know, the beer and the years add up.......In addition, they were scheduled to play Milwaukee's historic Oriental Theater (on the Rhythm Romance tour) and I had Row 1 tickets (!), but the show was cancelled at the last minute due to poor ticket sales.   Angry

Zifko's was a really cool place.  It was a big old wood floored, wood paneled ballroom built in the 1920's, I think.  It probably held about 1500 people, and, of course, had a gigantic crystal chandelier over the dance floor.  They served beer in long necked bottles, even for the concerts.  It's about 1/2 hour northwest of Milwaukee.  It's still there, but it's gone through several ownership changes in the past 10 years, so I don't know what kind of shape it's in now.  It also has a different name.

As for photos, I saw the Romantics there in the mid-'80's, well before the portable camera was invented.  Too bad. Undecided

Sounds like a really "characteristic" place!  I would have loved to have seen it!
As for camera's.....well, I have taken one wherever I went for the past 25 years!  Still do and always will!  Whether or not it ever comes out of my bag is another story!  But I am always ready to capture something!

Saw some great bands at CBGB's, unfortunately The Romantics were not one of them.

Remember seeing them at The Channel somewhere in New England, gosh, and a ton of other clubs - I'll find my list and list them!

Just saw them this past year at a tiny, tiny club in Philly.

My one and only time seeing the Romantics was actually this year on February 24th at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, FL.  It will definitely be one that I won't quickly forget!

Please, give us your review of the show!  We love to get the different angles, especially since we haven't heard from anyone who went to that Orlando show.  How did the band sound?  How was the crowd?  etc..
