Clem Burke: most impressive drummers' resume' ever
Apr 13th, 2005 at 12:46am

Drummer Clem Burke must have one of the most impressive resumes ever held by a rock drummer.  Over the years, he's been a member of three of the coolest rock bands ever:   Blondie, the Ramones (briefly), and of course, the Romantics.  How many other drummers can claim to have been a member of *three* great bands?  Smiley

Ken, Clem used to have a website that had a list of bands he has played with. Seemed like that list went on forever. I do remember he played on a Eurythmics album or two, and he was the drummer for the Plimsouls' reunion album as well as Dramarama. What others? Anyone recall?

I have some video from the early 80s of two different shows where Clem played drums for Iggy.

Here's what I found on Clem:

During the '80s and '90s, when Blondie was disbanded, Burke played drums for Pete Townshend, Bob Dylan, Eurythmics, Dramarama, Iggy Pop and Joan Jett, amongst others, and even stood in as drummer for The Ramones (under the name Elvis Ramone) for two gigs in 1987, after the sudden departure of Richie Ramone.

Rob, right...he backed Nancy Sinatra last year at Little Steven's Underground Garage Fest.

He also played with Chequered Past (I think that was in the '70's, before Blondie).

I thought of Kenny Aronoff right away; like Clem, he's always turning up.  I remember seeing him with John Mellencamp and with the BoDeans.  Who else has he played with?

It seems like I heard he recently toured with Melissa Ethridge.  According to my husband, he has played with everyone under the sun.
