yes i have had the veggie balls but never had to buy them.
i guess michigan doesn't have much of a demand for such items.

Didn't get a chance to post before the Super Bowl,
But I made an awesome pot of chili. Smiley

Maybe we ought to have a Romantics Chili cook-off sometime?! Smiley

Mine has a slow heat that sneaks up on you, as well as a few "secret spices" to sweeten and warm up the flavor.

The first batch I made 2 weeks ago was a bit too hot-- (I accidentally put in a 10 oz. can
of Chipotle peppers-- it could have not only peeled paint, I think if you ate it, you'd have no stomach lining any more... LOL)

Come on! You have to fire it up a little or it isn't chili. My super bowl chili had a GENEROUS dose of cayenne pepper as well as a hefty amount of dried habaneros. Even the diced tomatoes I used come with garlic and jalapenos right in the can. In fact, the beans I used came in a hot chili sauce and I used hot mexican tomatoe sauce as well. The thing that really gave it added flavor was the mexican oregano. Fantastic flavor!

Old Friend-- my hubby & I just built a deck this year.

We may need a chili cook-off around Memorial Day... :-D
Ummmm the 1st pot of chili was too potent. I think I could kill a raccoon if I left it outside.  10 oz. can of Chipotles (soaked in red hot Adobo sauce) PLUS a can of tomatoes with Jalapenos, PLUS chili powder, plus Cayenne pepper, plus red peppers (sweet ones, but peppers, none-the-less) = a recipe for chili that would require 2 bottles of pepto bismol and numerous (painful) trips to the bathroom... Remember, the chili was made in a 5 quart crock-pot.  If you look at the ingredients, that means that it was about 11 - 15% hot peppers.....

Bookies:  I originally made mine with beans only, but then I added meat to tone down the hotness. It's good either way. Smiley
I also have some secret spices that I add to enhance the flavors (NO, nothing illegal, sorry!)

I have never tasted a chili that was too hot for me. I never tried to make it meatless. What would you use in place of meat? This batch I just made for superbowl sunday I used ground turkey instead of beef. Tasted great. No one knew the difference. If you use a lot of different spices, it will still be good. Bookies, do you eat turkey?

Oh.. Well then, I can give you the frozen remains of my original batch (I kept it to use as a starter for future batches. Smiley

I LOVE spicy, but a whole can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce was even a bit much for me. Smiley

I've used ground turkey as well. For some reason, thought the frozen ground turkey usually tastes better (the fresh
can sometimes have a very strong turkey taste, that doesn't hide well, even in sauces and soups.)

Oldfriend have you ever made a white chicken chili? That may be my next experiment. Smiley

I'd like to have that recipe also.  I have always heard about the white chili, but never had a chance to try it.

OK, I have to dig it out!  I think McCormick has a packet of the seasoning that you add your white beans and either chicken or turkey!  It's fast, easy and good!  I like to use pulled turkey or chicken, but you can cube them also!

I can't use pre-packed spices. they usually contain onion that would make my hubby miserable....
I usually make my soups from scratch... Smiley

There is a restaurant in Boca Raton that makes the best turkey chili!  Now I'm getting hungry!  It's called Khaki's in case anyone is interested!
