"Believe while others are doubting.
Plan while others are playing.
Study while others are sleeping.
Decide while others are delaying.
Prepare while others are daydreaming.
Begin while others are procrastinating.
Work while others are wishing.
Save while others are wasting.
Listen while others are talking.
Smile while others are frowning.
Commend while others are criticizing.
Persist while others are quitting."

Gals--
thanks for posting some inspirational thoughts by Dr. MLK Jr.... I was in Lansing celebrating Dr. MLK Jr.'s work.  My hubby and I also braved the bitter cold during a march last night!)

I spent Sunday Evening at an incredible performance by the MSU Jazz Band I--- One of the professors, Diego Rivera (Saxophone) wrote a medly piece of Marvin Gaye "protest songs".... The piece must have been at least 45 minutes long and included about 10 songs.... The arrangement was absolutely phenomemal and included vocals, as well as solos by each of the instruments....  Truly an amazing piece of music!  If they ever perform in the Detroit area (with this piece), I will let the locals know-- you will be blown away by the depth of the music!

Here's my contribution for Inspirational Thought of the day....

***************************************************

Lift Every Voice and Sing

Lift every voice and sing, till earth and Heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet,
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered;
Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,
Thou Who hast brought us thus far on the way;

Thou Who hast by Thy might, led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee.
Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee.
Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand,
True to our God, true to our native land.

~~James Weldon Johnson
    (music by John Rosamond Johnson)

    Originally written by Johnson for a presentation in celebration of the birthday of Abraham Lincoln.
    This was originally performed in Jacksonville, Florida, by children.
    It is also known as the "Black National Anthem".

In thinking, keep to the simple.

In governing, don't try to control.
In work, do what you enjoy.
In family life, be completely present."
