Bomp! founder dies
Oct 27th, 2004 at 8:14pm

Hey all, just heard that Greg Shaw, founder of Bomp! Records, died last week. As you know, he was the guy who released the early version of "Tell it to Carrie," plus "Running Away," "Let's Swing" and "First in Line." It was the same year, 1978, that Bomp! magazine's power-pop issue was published, helping to give the genre an identity all its own. Just a year later, the Romantics were signed up with Nemperor and "What I Like About You" was about to hit the airwaves. Not sure what kind of relationship Shaw had with our guys (Oldfriend might have some perspective here), but clearly he played a role in the Romantics' emergence back in the early days. Jut thought you'd want to know about this ...

Kevin, Boris posted a "RIP Greg Shaw" thread a few days ago in the General section...it had a link to a great history of Bomp which was written by Shaw himself....check it out at http://www.bomp.com/History.html
