Title: The Romantics in Indianapolis, 4/28/2012
Post by KGRamone on May 1st, 2012 at 4:21am
Hey guys,

Wanted to share my experience at the Indianapolis show this past Saturday, where the Romantics opened for the Plain White T's. First of all, it was cold and wet. But there was still a decent crowd.

But the best part was that the Romantics not only played a really fun show (as usual), they played a TON of stuff from the first two albums, stuff I had never even heard them play live before. (Check out Brad's Facebook page for the set list.)

One of the highlights for me was hearing "Tell it to Carrie." I also was shocked when they played "Friday at the Hideout" -- that just made my night. We also got to hear a revved-up rendition of "Gimme One More Chance," as well as "First in Line."

It was also very interesting to see the near-original lineup back together, with Rich on bass, Wally on rhythm guitar and Mike on lead guitar. There's a cool interview with the band here, if you want to check it out:

Wally said there are more dates in the offing as they are planning a mini-tour with the English Beat this summer. Keep your eyes and ears open!

OK, sorry, apparently the URL defaults to the news coverage of the concert. There is a thumbnail below the main video that has a band photo and the text "The Romantics Reflect on Their Career." Click that for the interview.

Thanks for the show report Kevin. It was also a thrill for me to hear those songs last summer when they were playing as a 5 piece. I remember Friday At The Hideout really kicked ass!

Thanks for the recap.  It's been too long since they've played close enough for me to see a show.  I'm hoping they hit somewhere near Milwaukee or Chicago some time this year, especially with the English Beat.  They are another one of my all time favorites.

I haven't seen Rich play since he left the band in the early '80's.  Those early songs are some of their best, and I'm sure they still sound awesome live.

Let me know if you want a copy of the two stories for the web site or the band. I can capture, copy and convert the flash files to wmv, mov or mp4 file formats.

Good interview and especially the part about NEW music. My ears are smiling.

Enjoyed listening to the interview!  Any word on the absence of Coz? I know the home page here was updated  to say Cole, Skill, Palmar, and Elvis are on tour but know word why Coz not around.

Wally said that Coz is no longer a Romantic. Didn't go into detail, but apparently it is permanent. He actually seems pretty excited that they can do more vocally now with Rich back in the fold, though, so there's the silver lining.

Ok well works for me.  It's their business. :)  They rocked as a 5 man show last summer and i'm sure they will continue to rock with Coz gone and Skill back on lead.  Again, it was a thrill for a 30 plus year fan like myself to see Rich in the lineup, and a thrill to hear some of the older songs played live for the first time for me. Again, we are all lucky they still continue to tour and are still rockin hard after all these years

I can't argue with any of that, but I'm sure gonna miss the coolness that Coz brought to the stage.  He was becoming almost Keith Richards-like as he aged.

I kind of got the impression that Coz was being "squeezed" out of the lead guitar spot anyway.Anyone else notice Mike was playing much more lead guitar onstage the last 2 years or so?Either that,or maybe Coz just wanted to move onto doing other things.

Yeah, I got the feeling that Coz was kinda getting squeezed out of some lead guitar roles, too.  It coulda been a lot of things, though...different levels of desire to tour, interest levels in getting together to record (remember that they all live far apart now), outside projects (?), maybe they just get sick of each other's BS...who knows what all goes into it.

I'm sad to hear Coz is gone but I was really happy to hear Wally's comment about recording some new music.  It's been 9 years since the last record!

I will miss Coz on stage too but they are private about these kind of things so I didnt want to push the issue. I was thinking the same thing. Probably a combination of all of the above reasons.

Brew city, I thought the same thing about Coz! Definitely becoming Keith Richards like on stage! He oozed coolness.

Something very cool happened last night.I chatted with Brad Elvis for a while via FaceBook.I didn't even ask about Coz because I didn't want to press the issue either. We talked about old music since we are both Paul Revere And The Raiders fanatics.Brad seems like a great guy,and I thought that it was very cool of him to chat with me for a while.
