Title: Rich Cole playing with the guys again?
Post by Timster2 on May 8th, 2011 at 11:21am
There are two videos currently on You Tube showing the guys playing at the Winstar World Casino in
Thackerville, Oklahoma on April 28th.  Although the video never really is centered on him, it appears that Rich Cole is playing bass.  Was this a one time gig or will he be playing more shows this year?

No, I can't speak for the band to say Rich Cole has re-joined the band permanently. I am having serious issues about The Romantics' fans being apathetic and lazy. I devised a perfect plan for them to release a live album and nobody cared about whether or not the live album is released or not. Would you be supportive of a live album by The Romantics?

To address Timster first, Rich Cole joined them again in 2005 and most recently since New Year's Eve in  Royal Oak Michigan. So, yes, that is Rich Cole.  I can tell you firsthand that hearing the blend between the 4 guitars and the harmonies are simply amazing!  They are able to incorporate more of the original material, Tell It To Carrie, Little White Lies and Give Me One More Chance are a great
addition to the set!

All of the guys were on top of their game and were simply amazing at this last show n Las Vegas at the Rio.
As far as recording another a live album, there is a lot more than snapping your fingers and doing it.  Time, money, is it really worth it with people pirating music nowadays, etc.   Also, cottage on YouTube.  There is some great old footage that has already been recorded that should be out there!
Maybe it will be soon!  That's all I can say.  If making music was easy, everybody would do it.  If having a perfect body was easy, wouldn't everyone be perfect?

Stupid auto correct, not cottage on YouTube, footage!  It wouldn't let me change that on the iPhone!

I saw the show last night and was very impressed with the sound; both instrument and vocal-wise.  First time seeing Rich play with them; he added some excellent high harmonies as well as his bass.  Fun to see him and MIke both playing bass on a few songs!  Rock on, Boys!!!

I agree with johnnyglitter that having Rich Cole back with the Romantics is a great decision.  It frees up Mike to play lead on additional songs.  Having both Coz and Mike playing lead, and then Mike and Rich both playing bass adds depth and complexity to the music.  Adding Rich's vocals, with his ability to hit higher notes, allows the band to mine its archives for some of their more melodic tunes from their first three albums, and add them to the set.  Hearing "Carrie" and "Gimme One More Chance" after so many years made the concert special.

I think that it is good Rich Cole is back with the band because he is still a great player. I saw him there last month and was shocked because they made him look good wearing rock and roll clothes and a stylish haircut. Rich looks very different than from how he did before and I hope he keeps this style to fit in with the guys and of course look as good as he sounds to live up to the role.

The Romantics rocked Reno on 05/21/11 in a concert which featured a few more songs from their first three albums, a testament to how important it is having Rich back with the band.  The following is their set list, as best as I can remember it.

When I Look in Your Eyes
Rock You Up
Night Like This
Friday at the Hideout
Tell it to Carrie (great harmonies)
Midnight to Six
Talking in Your Sleep
Come See Me
One in a Million
Stone Pony
Tom Boy
First in Line
Shes Got Everything
Give Me One More Chance (again, great harmonies)
What I like About You
Tonight

Johnnyglitter, it is too bad you were not at this concert.  Mike's guitar sounded great, and really came through the sound system.

No "Outta My Mind"?

But hey, as long as "Stone Pony" and "Tomboy" are in there back-to-back, I'm happy.

No "61/49" either.  It's possible that the guys realized the audience in Reno might not appreciate their newer tunes, and therefore stuck to what the audience would recognize.

Hey, is this true regarding Rich Cole?. I dont check this board much because I follow their facebook page. Is he permanently back? I have seen EVERY lineup of the band except one with Rich in.  Awesome if this is true

Awesome! I would love to know how this materialized. I am planning on catching the Aug 20th Monte De Oro winery show.

"No One Like You" ?  One of my all time favorite obscure songs.
