Title: Observation & general question
Post by CyberCat on Jun 12th, 2008 at 7:26am
Greetings from Canada!  ;)

I haven't been on here for eons. A grueling computer course had me quite busy for two years. I've been going through my bookmarks recently and I have a folder just for my favorite guys so I decided to see what was up on here after all this time.

I was pleasantly surprised to first find out that A) my membership has not been deleted and B) to find the video clips of American Bandstand. I remember seeing the 1984 AB show and chasing anyone away who even dared to get near the t.v. when they were on there.

This is going to sound insane to most of you but I had never heard their speaking voices before that AB show. Of course it's 24 years later (and I was so in awe of them that day) that I couldn't remember what they sounded like. It made my day to see and hear them talk after all these years. So funny...watching it, I was that giddy teen again (I'm almost 40!) No matter. It made me happy. I suspect I'll be watching those clips a few hundred times now that I've discovered them.

You'll have to keep in mind that I didn't have much access to any Romantics stuff around here when I was a teenager. The guys were much bigger in the States. So if I'm not up to speed or ask questions that may have been asked before, please forgive me.

Having said ALL that...does anyone know if Wally, Coz or Mike keep in touch with Jimmy or Rich?

Thanks.

Cat

A few years ago (2004) Rich and Jimmy played (well, Rich played & sang, Jimmy only sang... :-( ) together with Wally, Coz, Mike and Brad on New Year's Eve. If you go to their www.romanticsdetroit.com website,  I took a few photos that are on their website. :-)  Rich & Jimmy are still in the Detroit Area, as is Wally.  :-)

That New Year's eve gig is the only concert I've ever had a chance to see with Jimmy--Like you, I was a teenager when they were big in the 80s and never got a chance to see Jimmy play live.... although at least now, I've heard him sing live!!  I also have never seen them play when Dave Petratos was around.

Where are you in Canada? (Did you ever post on the Introductions thread?--I've been busy with things for a while and haven't been around much on the message board lately.)  They seem to come into the Detroit Area pretty often, so maybe you can catch them the next time they are in MIchigan?

Hi Pink,

Thank you for your reply.

I'm in Nova Scotia, not too far from the border into Maine. I did post an introduction but it's probably been lost among all the other ones by now.

At the age of 14 I was all set to pack it up and move to Detroit so I could meet them. I still think they're amazing. I would love to be able to catch a Romantics show someday. Someday... ;)

Oh! Nova Scotia! my hubby and I almost made it up there one summer when we went out to Maine for our vacation. One of these days.... Yes, I guess that's probably not a big hot bed of Romantics concerts or fans... :-(

If you ever decide to come to Detroit, Bookies, LMK and I could probably show you around town. :-) Wally, Rich and Jimmy still live in the Detroit Area, although Rich only occasionally sits in with the band and I've only seen Jimmy that one time....

Coz & Mike are on the East Coast and Brad Elvis is from the Chicago area.   I think someone said that Dave Petratos is in Florida and  Clem Burke is back with Blondie.... I've also met Johnny B... The only former band member that I've never met has been Dave Petratos....

Oldfriend is the wealth of knowledge and knows a lot  history behind everything...And... I totally get you on the feeling like    a giddy teen-- The 1st time I met the band in person, I was in my 30s, but felt like a 14 year-old all over again!!!  (Back in the 80s, I hate to admit it, but I actually sent them a fan letter... LOL, although I have no idea if they ever received it--LOL!!) Since then, I've been lucky to meet them many more times. One thing-- they are really nice to their fans... :-)

Hey Pinkies,
I thought Mike lived in Portland, Oregon.  Has he moved?

If I do get your way, I would definitely love a tour!

Admittedly, I wrote a few letters that I never sent (which I still have). I would be on the floor if I had a chance to meet them. Once I was revived, I'm sure I could have a somewhat normal conversation. From the bare minimum info that I do know about them, it doesn't surprise me that they are nice to the people who admire them.

Does Coz live in LA or in Florida?  I thought he lived in Florida; or is it he has family in Florida?   At least we know that Wally is in Detroit and Brad lives in the windy city.  Correct me if I am wrong.  dennis

Yes, you are almost correct!  Coz lives in LA and has family in FL! :)
