Title: Solana Beach Review
Post by Rob on Jun 8th, 2008 at 8:06pm
Great show as usual, in Solana Beach last night. They were the headliners at an all day festival, and it was free, so there was  a huge crowd...one of the more enthusiastic I have seen in years. They were held to a strict time frame, so the show was a little shorter than normal at about 1 hour and 10 minutes. I brought a buddy who is a huge 80's music fan. He has never seen the Romantics live though, and he came away with a new found respect. I told him they rock much harder live, and they did  not dissapoint.  They looked and sounded great!

They played the following that I can remember, and not in this order:

Rock You Up
Midnight To six man
When I look In Your Eyes
I'm Your Man
Devil In me
A Night Like This
New Kinda Pain
First In Line
Tomboy
Talkin In Your Sleep
Shes Got Everything
6149
What I like About You

I'm sure I left a couple out also. There was a new tune in the set I have never heard before. I'm drawing a blank now on how the chorus went.  Can anyone help me out??

Wally and I had a little friendly banter going back and forth, as I was in the front row and I was calling out old tunes like Little White Lies, Tomboy etc.   Each time Wally would smile and say something like, "We don't do that one anymore." When they went into Tomboy, he smiled and looked at me with a "here ya go" look.  Very kool.

I had a few friends that went to the show last night too!  I'll see if I can find out what that "missing" song from your mind is Rob!  LOL!  It happens to the best of us!  Some more than others right?  Sad thing is I seem to keep falling into that category more and more! ;)

Was it Respect?

Hmmm, I dont think it was Respect. I didnt recognize the song at all, and it was definitely not a song I have ever heard them play live in my 20 plus shows. I thought maybe it was something new they wrote??

How 'bout "Slow Boating"?  I mean "Stone Pony"--did they play that one?

The Solana Beach City Council, after much deliberation, proclaims that "Respect" is the song in question.

Is it one of their own, or a cover??

World Class Bands Entertained The Crowds

The Romantics and The English Beat Headlined the 29th Annual Festival
In conjunction with 91X FM,the Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce, the City of Solana Beach and the Belly Up presented a great line=up of musical talent for the 2008 Fiesta Del Sol Festival, the 29th edition of the popular summer kick off event.

WHAT BUSINESSES  ARE SAYING...

"I am a part of almost every special event in San Diego, and out of all those events Fiesta del Sol has always been known for showcasing some of the best musical talent available, but this year it seemed that the committee stepped-up that already high talent level. Thank you."
