Title: Sheila Witkin Memorial Reunion Concert
Post by wallypalmar on Jan 24th, 2007 at 8:15am
First of all, I would like to start off by wishing everyone a very happy 2007.  I am looking forward to going down to South Florida this weekend and taking part in The Sheila Witkin Memorial Reunion Benefit.  Sheila was a very dear friend to The Romantics.  We knew her from when we recorded our first album down in Florida.  Her son, Bruce, has put this benefit together and is also a very close friend of ours, but especially of Coz.  Sheila was like a second mother to him.  For those of you who do not know, Bruce Witkin recorded and produced the song "Still We Remain" off the 61/49 album.
I am also looking forward to the return of Dave, "The Greek", Petratos who will be sitting in with us on a few songs.  It should be interesting to say the least and guaranteed to be a lot of fun!  If you are in the area, or even if you are not, you won't want to miss it!
Over the years we have gotten to know a lot of people from South Florida and now that the word is out, you never know who might show up and who might be sitting in during the benefit on Sunday.

Wally,

This is all so very sad.  Please pass along my deepest sympathies to all, especially Coz, at this difficult time.

With Much Love,

Lori

All I can say is that it was amazing!  It was really an experience to see all of these bands!  Especially being able to see Coz and Dave play in other bands that they were in prior to The Romantics.  They were all great.  And of course there was The Kids! http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Sheila+Witkin&search=Search I was seated in front of Johnny Depp and that is what most of my photos feature.  Unfortunately, I wasn't old enough to appreciate the music scene in the 70's and early 80's.  I think I missed out on a lot.  But I am glad that I was able to catch them all now!  The Romantics joined The Kids towards the end of their set.  They did Gimme One More Chance, Little White Lies, What I Like About You and Rock You Up.   Simply brilliant!  They sounded absolutely wonderful together.  They were all joined on stage by other members of different bands and finished it up with Route 66 and Money.  The bands started about 6ish and finished just before midnight.  There was talk about doing this sort of benefit every year.  I hope it comes together.  A great concert for a great cause.

The whole event was recorded and filmed for a documentary.  When, where and if we ever see it will be the question!  The only other footage was from the youtube link.

You are so lucky!! :-)
Maybe if they do it again next year, I'll be able to come down to Florida--it would be a great excuse to leave the cold weather behind!

Just went to see Rock and Hard Place: Another Night At The Agora  http://www.anothernightattheagora.com/  Even though it was a few years before my time of going to clubs, I found it very interesting!
This article pretty much sums it all up! http://www.sun-sentinel.com/entertainment/events/sfl-mvagorasbapr09,0,3714234.story
So, for those of you who missed the concert last February, maybe you can catch this on the big screen, or at least on DVD with a lot outtakes!
I only felt that there was one thing missing.  Actually footage from the Agora Ballroom, and photos comparing what it looked like before to what has taken it's place since~!
