Title: World Series

any prognosticators out there?

Title: Re: World Series
Post by BrewCity on Oct 19th, 2006 at 3:31am
I'm gonna go out on a limb, and predict the Mets to come out of the NL, even though they now need to win Games 6 & 7 to do it.  After that, the Mets will be ROLLED OVER by the Tigers, probably in 5 games.

If I'm wrong about the Mets, then the Cards will be ROLLED OVER by the Tigers in 5.

I might have to go to this one if it's the Mets!  I have never seen the Mets, or the Tiger's for that matter in the World Series!  It really is a whole different energy!  I was never impressed by Yankee Stadium, but I was impressed with Commerica!  I hope the new Yankee Stadium is half of what Tiger's Stadium is!

The SeaWolves are offering World Series tickets.

As I know this is of some interest to most people, here is the unclickable link......

ok, we have the cards to contend with.
i think this is a better match up.
mets had too many leftie batters.
a little over 36 hours until the first pitch.
where will YOU be?

Woo Hoo!
Go Tigers! :-)
I understand they dressed up "the Spirit of Detroit" with it's own giant Tiger jersey! ;-)

Wow.Not impressed by Yankee Stadium? It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the modern ballparks, but it's historic and sacred ground to anyone who loves baseball.Hell, even George Costanza worked there for a few years as the assistant to the traveling secretary!!!!!!!!!!!

I just hope the new Yankee Stadium is much more improved.  Was it impressive to be in the Yankee Stadium?  Sure, but it really didn't impress me all that much!  The stairs are very, very steep!  I actually remember someone sitting two rows in front of me a couple of years ago, that stood up and fell foward.  He was the father of one of the players and was rushed to the hospital.  Thankfully he was OK.  Just seems like there is a lot of room for improvement.
It's exciting to be in a stadium where Joe D, Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson, Billy Martin, etc. all made history, don't get me wrong!  I just didn't see a beautiful stadium with actual articles for all to see.  Now they will be given a second chance and I'm sure going to make all of this up to date.
I love the Yankees.  Been a fan since I was 5!  Still am really, but I am happy that someone else has been given the chance to win a world series!  Go TIGERS! :)

:-(  Our beloved Tigers did not do well tonight....
But, I'm happy that the MSU Spartans Kicked Butt in football today against Northwestern!!!

i hope you are right brew!

one thing i could do without is the detroit fans booing pujols or any other cardinal.  that is so tacky.  if someone is a good player, then he should be recognized for his ability, not booed for his uniform.

oh an as for the "substance" on Kenny Rogers thumb, everyone needs to get over it.

and for those of you who WEREN'T watching the game, they played quite a bit of what i like about you!!

Well, I'm not throwing away my "Tigers To Win" ticket as of yet! ;)

Title: Re: World Series
Post by PIRATE on Oct 25th, 2006 at 11:02am
okay....cards are up 2-1....will kenny rogers pitch again this series and if so will his hands be clean??   ;).........the truth is you can put any team on any givin day and anyone can win these games....i say the cards take it in 6 games. so far the starting pitchers on either team are making the series.....seems like a smooth entertaining series.

Title: Re: World Series
Post by bookies_original on Oct 25th, 2006 at 7:46pm
i agree pirate. with these post season games, you can throw all the stats out the window because anything can happen.
of course i am still the optimist believing the tigers can recover and move on to win the series.
the cards pitching has been stellar.

It ain't over til the fat lady sings!  Or something like that!!!!!!!!! ;)

Title: Re: World Series
Post by BrewCity on Oct 25th, 2006 at 11:52pm
It ain't over 'til Cecil Fielder sings!

Looks like the Cards got healthy at the right time.  Edmonds and Rolen were non-factors in the 2nd half of the season due to injuries, and now look what they're doing!  And, I think the young "Cats" started out a bit nervous.  I see the Tigers finishing strong.  They absolutely can still win this thing.  They kinda need to win tonight, though.  It's too hard to came back from a 3-1 deficit--I don't care who you are.

oh and have i mentioned brew's unquenchable sense of humor lately?

i swear brew, you are the only non-detroiter who remembers cecil fielder!!

Title: Re: World Series
Post by BrewCity on Oct 26th, 2006 at 2:25am
Well, I do remember him from his playing days......but his "little" boy now plays 1st base for the Brewers.

Title: Re: World Series
Post by PIRATE on Oct 26th, 2006 at 12:23pm
of course we all have our favorites...but anything can happen....even rainouts!!
good luck to the tigers......cards up 2-1 with 2 more at home

hhmmm cecil.....his son is on the brewers...they can do a duet :D

Title: Re: World Series
Post by bookies_original on Oct 26th, 2006 at 7:08pm
i just hope the rain out helps shake the tigers bats up a bit!!
also, hopefully we will get these games in before next monday!
we sure don't want a tigers celebration on devils night!

Title: Re: World Series
Post by BrewCity on Oct 26th, 2006 at 8:48pm
If I were you, I'd take the celebration any night I could get it.

Then, let the Fielders sing!  (Maybe Cecil and Prince Fielder could sing a Prince song to take the 'fat lady's' place).

Title: Re: World Series
Post by bookies_original on Oct 27th, 2006 at 8:42pm
ok, now i am starting to worry :-/

Title: Re: World Series
Post by BrewCity on Oct 27th, 2006 at 9:50pm
I'd worry, too.  It's hard to overcome all those errors, and all those lucky hits that just are inches away from being caught.  You can't blame that stuff on Leyland.  The Cards' playoff experience is really paying off, too.

But don't write the Tigers off just yet.  They can still get hot and win 3 straight.  I haven't heard the Fielders sing anything yet.

Maybe history will repeat itself. This is the way the 68 series went up to this point.

yeah, you are right oldfriend.
i won't lose hope until i see aretha franklin come out to sing the national anthem.
by the way, did anyone catch bob seger doing america the beautiful?
if so, any comments?

Title: Re: World Series
Post by BrewCity on Oct 28th, 2006 at 5:00am
I saw it.  The fat lady did sing.  And she has a beard.   :-/

Yeah, oldfriend, you are exactly right.  In 1968 St. Louis led Detroit 3 games to 1, and led by a score of 3-0 in the 1st inning of Game 5.  Detroit went on to win Game 5 and also never trailed in Games 6 and 7 while winning the Series 4 games to 3.

fyi,  i will be hibernating for the remainder of the winter after i nurse my bruises.
what a sad ending for the fairy tale beginning of the tigers season :'(

Title: Re: World Series
Post by oldfriend on Oct 28th, 2006 at 11:33am
Leyland is an idiot. All year he yanked pitchers who were pitching a strong game and numerous times the reliever, usually Jones, got shelled. He would never bunt in obvious bunting situations. But today I heard him on the radio say the stupidest thing I ever heard him say. First of all, you HAVE TO START ROGERS FOR GAME 5. He has been your best pitcher by far, but this is what Leyland said. "If we only had one game to win, I would start Rogers. But we have three games to win". IDIOT!!!!!!!! You have ONE game to win or it's all over!!!!!!! MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   In 68, Lolich pitched game 5 and won. Then, even though it was not his turn in the rotation, Lolich pitched game 7. He was the most effective pitcher in that series, so they went with him. Why wouldn't Leyland use Rogers in a do or die game? Because He's an IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!.

i agree pirate!!  these guys gave the city of detroit a ton of fun all year long and did more than anyone could have asked for!  they still deserve a parade for their winning the alcs but it doesnt look like they will get one.

The Tigers train in Lakeland, Florida.  Spring Training is a blast for baseball fans--Bookies, plan your vacation now for next March.

Make sure you check the Tigers' Spring Training schedule when it comes out next month, because they will be playing a game every day in March somewhere in Florida.

Post by solodka on Oct 31st, 2006 at 6:50am
Don't the Yankees have a spring training up there too?  I seem to remember Lakeland being close to Tampa!  Nice combo!  I can see them both hopefully!

Title: Re: World Series
Post by BrewCity on Oct 31st, 2006 at 7:50pm
Lakeland's northeast of Tampa, just up HWY 4 toward Orlando.  Probably only about 15-20 miles from Tampa.  The Yankees do train in Tampa, near the airport.

A break it is......I was just trying to fill in the cracks for you and provide some detail for those who may not know their Florida geography.  I do some business in the Tampa area, so I'm pretty familiar with the area.

maybe we can all get together during spring training!

As sad as I am they didn't win the Series, it was an amazing year.

Bookies... I'm wiht you, they deserve a parade. I went down to the stadium the other day and it was cool to see all the signs people left and man was the merchadise store packed.

Speaking of spring trainging - I'm planning on heading down there for the first weekend (its like March 3rdish). Ironically its my spring break so I plan on catching Tigers spring training, the Indians and the Yankees spring trainging.

Its pretty cheap, can see several different teams/games and is suppose to be a blast from everything I have read.

So yeah if anyone wants to meet up, I'll be down there for the first weekend (the Tigers first game is on a Thursday against Philly).

Speaking of your Dodgers... they moved a former Tampa Bay Single A minor league team up to  Midland, MI, and then the Dodgers made them their Single-A team. The team, The Great Lake Loons, will start in Midland in April. Midland is this small little town in the middle of Michigan and ironically my Aunt has a cottage about 15 mins from there... so to make a long story short I'll be seeing alot of your Dodgers (well the Single-A version atleast) next summer.

andrew...maybe the dodgers will grow on you a lil.....of course thats a minor league team you were refering to but they will bleed dodger blue.

when i leaved in colorado last year i lived 5 minutes away from the colorado rockies triple a team the sky sox.......i had no idea how popular minor league baseball was intil then....it has neat seeing people pile into the parking lot.
