Title: The Weakend
Post by oldfriend on Feb 12th, 2005 at 12:13pm
The Weakend played an absolutely brilliant set on friday the 11th that had the crowd in a frenzy. You would think that after listening to five other bands first that the crowd would be drained. They must have gotten their second wind because from the first song the place went nuts. Amazing to me how many people knew the lyrics to every song. They are playing 2 shows the same night on Saturday the 19th, both in Warren. I will post the locations and times as soon as I find out the info.

Hey, we might actually be able to make it to their next gig!

Exciting news around here! The Weakend has just been offered a three album deal with Fearless Records, with their first album to be heavily promoted and distributed through Warner Brothers! It looks like they will be doing most of the Warped tour this year and a national tour after that. More details to come. They are playing on March 20th at the Lions Club on Utica Road just south of 15 mile with Alucard. They have a few more local shows and after that it could be some time before they play the Detroit area again. Hope some of you locals can make it.

That's awesome news, Oldfriend!  Congratulations to The Weakend!!  I saw on their website that they will be in my neck of the woods on March 15.  I'm going to try to catch their show.  It's on a Tuesday night, so it's a little harder to get a babysitter, but, hopefully, I can get it worked out.

Congrats to the Weakend, Oldfriend!  Both Alucard and the Weakend sound like they are doing great.  Will definitely try to see them on March 20, but can't promise it just yet.

The Weakend's lawyer has offered Fearless records some counter proposals for the 3 album deal that is in the works. The band has some new leverage since another label, Fueled By Ramen, is now showing major interest in the band. We will see what happens. The band is in Alabama tonight, followed by the next three nights in different cities in Florida. Then it's on to Atlanta and back up the east coast. Check their tour schedule at  www.the weakend.com and click on "shows". Of course, you locals don't forget the Warped Tour show on July 31st. Hope some of you can make it.

Thats great news. Fueled By Ramen is huge! Look at what happened to Fall Out Boy. I've noticed on absolutepunk.net how much of a following the Weakend has - its great to see!

What is happening with Fallout Boy is very encouraging for The Weakend. They have done shows together, including a sellout at Clutch Cargo's last fall. Fallout Boy's drummer has actually said that Jeff from The Weakend is his favorite drummer and he stays in touch with Jeff all the time through e-mails. Hopefully this will be the start of something big.

I forgot to add that it was in fact Fallout Boy who brought The Weakend to the attention of Fueled By Ramen.

Thats awesome. I was not able to attend that Fall Out Boy show last fall at Clutch Cargos, but several kids from school went and thought the Weakend was some national band and were very impressed, a couple of them even went and saw the band at other shows. Having a band that is at #9 on Billboard pulling for you is awesome!

Keep us updated... and I'll for sure be checking them out at Warped Tour.

The guys will be going into the studio soon to record their new full length album. If you liked the original EP (if you heard it), you will love the new album. I get to hear the new songs because they practice at my house. A bigger label is waiting to hear the new material as well and this could be the clincher which is why they did not rush into a deal with Fearless.

The band is finishing up rehearsals in preparation for recording their new full length album. One of their guitarists, Jim Walmsley, just had hernia surgery yesterday and is resting. Despite the surgery, the band is playing shows this Friday and Saturday. Jim will be sitting instead of being his usual animated self. Friday's show is at the Lions Club on Utica road near 15 mile.

Myspace Cafe is on 13 mile on the east side near Hayes (I think). It's just a list of the bands that are playing there that night. They will be playing the Ernie Ball stage at Warped Tour on the 29th.

I'll be there hopefully I can check them out (that is if the show doesn't fall apart like Warped 2002 as it seems to be doing - Detroit is now refusing to let them shut down the street so half the event is being pushed back into the small parking lot :( ).

The Weakend is playing the Myspace Cafe on 13 Mile east ot Hayes this Friday the 6th with Alucard and a couple of other bands. Out of literally thousands of bands that competed to get on the Ernie Ball stage at warped tour, the Weakend got chosen as one of 13 bands to be on the nationally distributed Ernie Ball cd titled "The Best 13 Unsigned Bands In The Country". The Weakend contributes the unreleased song "This Sudden Loss Of Innocence".

Too bad no one made it to Myspace on Friday. The guys played a killer show. The Weakend has been asked to contribute their version of a Journey song for a Journey tribute album being released on a major label. Why anyone would want to do a Journey tribute album is beyond me, but the Weakend, who are not familiar at all with Journey material, will be listening to some of their stuff ( no matter how painful) and pick a tune to do. They will try to give it their own treatment and not just do a straight up cover. It should be interesting to see what they come up with.

The band has been steadily recording new songs and demos for the last 2 years or so. They have decided to release about a dozen of these tracks on a new album which will be coming out soon. A limited number will also be released on vinyl. The vinyl versons will come out on several different colored vinyl albums.

The band will be in Alabama this coming week to demo more tracks. They have written SO MANY new songs in the last few months that it is unbelievable. They have about 15 or 16 unreleased tracks that have been recorded and laying around for the last year or so, and they plan on putting out a new cd of about a dozen of these tracks next month. Check out their myspace site in a few days for more details.

The demo sessions are going great. The instrumental tracks will be done by tonight and the lead singer, Andrew, will remain in Alabama for a few more weeks to finish the vocals and mixing. By late April or May they will be playing a lot of shows locally.

The Weakend are in Philadelphia and will be there for about three weeks recording their new album with a producer who works for (forgot the label) the label owned by the bass player in Offspring. He's really hot on the band and hopefully this album will get some attention from the big boys.

Recording sessions are going well for the new Weakend album. The studio is called Big Sky Audio. Just google that, and you can take a virtual tour around the studio. The place looks amazing.

Looks like The Weakend could be history. We'll see. Since about 3 months ago, my son Jeff who drummed in the Weakend as well as the Weakend's bass player and one of the guitar players have joined with an AMAZING songwriter singer musician known as Deastro. They have kept that as the name of the new band. When they played the Magic Stick on the 2nd of August, Ellen Paige, Drew Barrymore, and Jimmy Fallon actually showed up. A girl that Jeff went to school with is in their new movie as a stunt double and introduced Jeff to them. They all seemed to be really nice people, especially Jimmy Fallon, who was as down to earth as it gets. No ego in the way for this guy.
