when I travelled in 1985, I only got to see China, I haven't ever been to Hong Kong (which I understand is completely westernized and extremely high tech--although so is most of China now vs. 20 years ago.)  I haven't been to Taiwan, either!

Hopefully, one of these days I'll get to go back and see the amazing amounts of progress and new high-rises in Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou and Suzhou! :-)  One day, I hope to be able to actually hike a portion of the Great Wall with my hubby!

Are you going to Mainland China as well? or only staying in Hong Kong? I understand that there is a dish in Hong Kong called "drunken shrimp"--where they put live shrimp in a bowl full of alcohol, and then once they are "drunk", they are cooked up-- It is supposed to be very good!

I've never had the drunken shrimp dish, but my sister has experienced it.  I think she said it was in Hong Kong, but I could be wrong...

LOL about your "ditali/ditalini" incident.   My friend is from Panama, and she went out to Cali and asked if they had "Chi-Chi's (a chain of Americanized Mexican restaurants--I think they are out of business now.)... The people there started giggling-- apparently, it's a Mexican slang word for breasts. :-)
